Out of Touch Politicians

Why do so many people who are already receiving a good – some people would say stupendous – income, need to grab so much more?

Whatever the precise terms of reference they are working to, both Jack Straw and Malcolm Rifkind are hardly on a poverty income. Even when they retire they will get a substantial parliamentary pension. How is it that Malcolm Rifkind claimed to have so much time to spare? How is it that Jack Straw feels he is not already getting enough from his couple of jobs on the side as well as £5000 a throw for speaking engagements?

And most importantly of all for Basingstoke constituency residents, why did Maria Miller MP need so much extra money to sustain her when so many of her constituents can cope with living in Basingstoke and commuting daily to London – usually in quite uncomfortable circumstances as they are obliged to travel during rush hour.

Many MPs choose not to milk the system. Those who have done need to receive a clear message:
“Goodbye”.
