"Budget Beef"
The most recent meeting of the full Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council concentrated mainly on the budget and council plan for the year ahead. 
The Labour Party submitted an amendment which would have – amongst other things – reallocated some of the funds towards addressing our desperate local social housing shortage. Three out of the four Independent councillors supported this suggestion. 
However, bearing in mind the council’s substantial reserves, I also put forward ideas for other worthwhile projects. Saving money is admirable but in so doing one cannot afford to disregard quality of service.
