Manydown Housing Provision
The borough council had an Extraordinary meeting last month to discuss a Labour motion that a requirement for 40% affordable housing on new developments in the borough apply equally to the council-owned/leased Manydown land, as is planned for all other local developments.
By the casting vote of the Conservative mayor, the motion was lost. This is despite the fact that the council's interest in the land was bought as a result of the substantial funds raised when Basingstoke and Deane sold off its council houses to housing associations. At that time it was promised that the money raised would be used to assist families in housing need.
My contribution to the debate can be seen in the attached clip.
